Mixed Hardwood - Overlay Solid Timber Flooring

Overlay solid hardwood timber flooring is a product designed for applications where the the beauty, style and warmth of a solid timber floor is desired, but there are limitations on the areas sub-floor structure or the application requires a floor thinner than traditional tongue and groove strip flooring of 19 mm. The reason Overlay flooring can achieve a thinner board thickness is because it is only designed to be installed directly over a flat structural and well-supported surface such as existing timber floors, concrete or plywood. The wear thickness of a overlay floor is not compromised by the thinner board thickness, thanks to the design the floor boards still retain the same wear thickness as traditional tongue and groove timber floors.

Where carpet can easily stain, it is also known to trap in dust, dirt, toxins, and other pollutants. Solid overlay timber flooring, like solid wood flooring, is hypo-allergenic as it does not have fibres to trap in these things that can be harmful to our children, elderly, or those with existing health conditions such as asthma. You can spend hundreds of dollars to have your carpets steam cleaned, and still have more dirt and contaminants in them than you would with a freshly mopped solid timber floor. And when compared with tiles, a tile is cold and hard. The grout can be hard to clean and both the grout and tile tend to stain over time. The only way to fix that is by replacing.

Solid overlay timber flooring can be installed in most situations; however there are specific installation and fixing procedures that must be followed to ensure the long term performance of the timber floor.

Some of the key features and benefits of overlay solid hardwood timber floors are:

  • Thinner boards, perfect for renovations or refurbishments where existing floors are in place
  • Largest range of species, colours and grain patterns
  • Long lasting and hard wearing
  • Easy to maintain
  • Installation over existing timber, sheet floor, battens and concrete

  • Solid timer - a renewable resource
  • Low manufacturing environment impact
  • Can be laid early in construction and finished at completion for damage prevention
